-YCP MLAs involved in cheap liquor mafia

AMARAVATI: TDP former Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy on Friday demanded a CBI investigation into the illegal liquor smuggling from Goa into Andhra Pradesh through tar tankers via sea route.

Chandramohan Reddy said the ruling YSRCP MLAs and leaders were actively involved in the liquor smuggling. They were buying this cheap liquor at Rs. 20 in Goa and selling the same at Rs. 200 through Government liquor shops in the State.

Addressing a press conference here, the TDP leader said this smuggled liquor was highly harmful and dangerous to the lives of the drinkers. While smugglers illegally transported red sanders in milk tankers in Pushpa cinema, the YCP leaders were smuggling harmful liquor from other States in tar tankers via sea route.

Chandramohan Reddy recalled that YCP MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy was accused number 10 in Goa liquor smuggling case in 2014 itself. Many YCP leaders had active links with the liquor smugglers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The liquor smuggling mafia surrounding the ruling party MLAs would be exposed only when there would be a CBI inquiry immediately.

The TDP leader said that Goa liquor was being smuggled into Nellore district via Pondicherry and Karnataka. The liquor seized recently was Goa liquor only. In 2014, the police arrested one ‘Appu’ for playing a key role in smuggling liquor from other States. He was imprisoned in Rajahmundry jail where he lost his life.

Chandramohan Reddy said many other members of that liquor smuggling gang were now bringing cheap liquor into Nellore district. In the 2014 liquor smuggling case, Samuel Mantro and Neil Mantro belonging to National Distilleries, Goa, were listed among the accused.

The TDP leader pointed out that over 9 persons died after drinking the smuggled liquor brought from Goa in 2014. Even the cheap liquor being made in AP was found to be toxic just like Goa liquor. The CBI should crack the cheap liquor mafia that was going on with Nellore district as the centre of activities.
