TDP demands relief for flood-hit be increased

Amaravathi, July 19: The State Government miserably failed in the flood-management, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said on Tuesday and demanded that the compensation for the affected families be increased and essential commodities be continuously supplied for some more days.

Party senior leader and former minister Kala Venkat Rao told media persons at the party office here that it is really disgraceful that the Jagan Mohan Reddy Government could not take timely measures to deal with the calamity. The Chief Minister conducted just an aerial survey of the areas and is sitting quiet at his Tadapalle palace while the official machinery too is only following him, he said.

The official machinery is not provided the necessary infrastructure to deal with the situation, Mr Kala Venkat Rao said, adding that the flood-hit are only left to their fate. Recalling as to how Mr Chandrababu Naidu as chief minister dealt with the Hud Hud cyclone by camping in the affected areas and medicines, milk and other essentials were supplied by the official machinery within one hour after, the TDP leader felt that this Government failed miserably in taking up the relief measures.

Except repeatedly claiming that he has come to power by winning 151 Assembly seats and fouisting false and petty cases against the TDP leaders, the Chief Minister does not have even a minimum idea as to how to deal with calamities when they strike the State, Mr Kala Venkat Rao maintained. No contractor or even the suppliers of the essentials are coming forward to provide the essentials to the victims as the State Government is yet to clear the huge amount of dues to them.

When the local Minister and the district collector visited the flood-hit areas, the victims questioned them on their failure to come to their rescue and take timely measures they ran away from there and did not visit the areas later. “When they failed to take timely measures will the affected not question them,” he asked.

The TDP demands that the compensation of Rs 2,000 each paid to the affected families be increased, the essentials, including edible oil and dal to be supplied to them for some more period and the 25 kg rice supplied to each family is not enough and this be increased to 75 kgs, Mr Venkat Rao said. The damaged houses should be rebuilt and an assurance be given to the families to this effect, he stated. Also, farmers are the worst-hit and necessary compensation be paid to them, he added.
