-Demands CBI probe into Dalit driver murder
A-nantha Babu tried to hush up murder
AMARAVATI: TDP Dalit ex Ministers and leaders on Tuesday urged Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan to ensure justice to the family of ‘slain Dalit driver’ by dismissing YSRCP MLC Anantha Babu from the Legislative Council.
In a letter to the Governor here, TDP ex Ministers Nakka Ananda Babu, Peethala Sujatha, party leaders M.S. Raju and Pilli Manikya Rao urged for a ‘CBI inquiry’ into the killing of YCP MLC’s former driver Veedhi Subrahmanyam in Kakinada. Prior to his arrest, the accused MLC and the ruling party leaders, with the connivance of the local police, tried to hush up the murder case.
The TDP leaders said that MLC Anantha Udaya Bhaskar alias Anantha Babu ‘brutally murdered’ Subramanyam, an SC Mala aged about 23 years. As per the statement of the family members, Anantha Babu himself picked up Subrahmanyam on May 19th evening, 2022, on the pretext of his (MLC) birthday party. At around 12.30 AM on 20th May, MLC Anantha Babu called the victim’s family members over phone that Subrahmanyam met with an accident and has been admitted to a private hospital.
The TDP leaders further said that in the early hours of May 20, Anantha Babu himself had brought the dead body of Veedhi Subramanyam to his family members in a car and asked them to collect the dead body to perform last rites. Further, MLC Anantha Babu tried to lure the victim’s family members with money if they accepted the dead body silently without creating any ruckus.
Expressing serious concern, the TDP ex Ministers said when the family members raised a public alarm, the MLC fled the scene leaving the car and dead body near the victim’s house. The police registered a case of death under suspecious circumstances under Section 174 CrPC though the victim’s family strongly complained that MLC Anantha Babu has murdered Veedhi Subramanyam.
The TDP leaders told the Governor that their party along with the family members of the victim, Dalit associations and other civil society organisations agitated. After this, the district Superintendent of Police (SP), Kakinada, after 48 hours of murder, announced in a press meet that the FIR was changed to murder case. The family members of the victim, TDP and other public associations demanded that the post-mortem be conducted only after the arrest of MLC Anantha Babu.
The ex Ministers said that during the protests, the victim’s pregnant wife was beaten by the police. Finally, post mortem was conducted during midnight of 21st May 2022 only after the district Superintendent of Police stated that it was a murder and accordingly FIR has been registered against MLC Anantha Babu.
The TDP leaders said that for 48 hours after the murder was committed, the ruling YSRCP MLC Anantha Babu had attended wedding functions and has allegedly lobbied with some big shots in the Government to save him from the murder case. The post-mortem report clearly stated that Veedhi Subramanyam was brutally murdered.
