YCP goons attempted to murder Murali
DGP should restore law and order
Govt stifling voice of opposition leaders
AMARAVATI: TDP National President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday urged the Director General of Police (DGP) of AP to ensure a detailed inquiry into the ‘kidnap and attempt to murder’ of iTDP Kuppam activist C. Murali in Chittoor district.
Naidu wrote a letter to the DGP here, stressing the need for taking stringent action as the ruling YSRCP goons held Murali in their illegal custody and gave life threats to him. The latest incident marked the complete collapse of law and order in the State.
The TDP chief said the people of the State were suffering under the ‘Jungle Raj’ unleashed by the present rulers. There was utter lack of respect for fundamental rights. The law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh has collapsed and reached a decaying stage. In spite of repeated violent attacks against opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and sympathizers, there appears to be negligible or no action against the culprits.
Expressing serious concern, Naidu said: “the YSRCP leaders and goons seemed to be in connivance with a section of the police who were trying to stifle the democratic voice of the opposition TDP leaders. C. Murali, an active member of the Kuppam iTDP, was kidnapped from Kuppam town at around 1.55 PM on 20th December 2021 by the ruling YSRCP supporters. It was learnt that Murali was straightaway taken to the house of RESCO Chairperson, GS Sendhil Kumar.”
Chandrababu Naidu told the DGP that while in illegal custody, Murali was beaten with fists and legs and was threatened with life by Sendhil Kumar and his henchmen. Later, one of the henchmen of GS Sendhil Kumar forcefully video-recorded a statement about HM Murugesh. During this entire ordeal, Murali sustained injuries on his face near right eye.
The TDP chief said that at around 6.30 PM on 20th December 2021, Murali was taken out of Sendhil Kumar’s house in two cars and two bikes to a secluded place and was beaten. There Murali was threatened of dire consequences to his life in case he revealed that he was kidnapped and assaulted. As a result, Murali was frightened and did not report this ghastly incident until 23rd December 2021.
Naidu warned that in the event of any untoward incident or threat to C Murali in the future, the Government will be held responsible. Therefore, in the interest of safeguarding democracy and to allow free voice to the opposition parties, it is pertinent that the police conduct an inquiry and take stringent action against the attackers.
The TDP chief said that simultaneously, adequate protection has to be provided to C Murali in order to ensure his safety. Only a prompt action by the police would ensure that law and order is maintained in the State and would protect the fundamental rights of the people in Andhra Pradesh as guaranteed by the constitution.
