AMARAVATI: TDP National President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday paid rich tributes to late Jagjivan Ram on the occasion of his jayanthi celebrations all over the country.
Naidu recalled how Jagjivan Ram fought a lifelong struggle for the rights of Dalits and for establishing an egalitarian society.
In a statement here, the TDP chief asserted that the Telugu Desam Party has all along been striving for better opportunities to the weaker sections in educational and employment opportunities. The safety and self-respect for Dalits has been uppermost on the TDP agenda since its inception.
Naidu said over 2.74 lakh Dalit youth started businesses with Government loans under the TDP rule. Basic facilities like roads were provided in Dalit colonies. They got a better deal only under the TDP regime. On the other hand, an alarming situation was prevailing in AP that the Dalits had to fight against a Government which was filing atrocities’ cases against them.
Chandrababu Naidu called upon the weaker sections to question and revolt against the Government that was destroying the golden future of their children. They should fight for their protection and rights. A true tribute to Jagjivan Ram would be to give respect to the Dalits for whose well being he always stood for.
TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh, in a separate statement, called Jagjivan an inspiring personality who fought for social justice while taking part in the independence struggle. The late leader had devoted his life for social and educational empowerment of Dalits.
Lokesh recalled how Jagjivan Ram played a vital role in bringing focus on the rights of Dalits in the country. He brought revolutionary changes by making use of every position that adorned him.
