Pleads for rescuing lakhs of film, theatre workers
AMARAVATI: Noted film producer Atluri Narayana Rao on Saturday met Chief Justice of India Justice N.V. Ramana during the latter’s ongoing visit to the State.
Narayana Rao explained to Justice Ramana about the recent problems faced by the cine industry in Andhra Pradesh. He informed about the closure of hundreds of theatres during the Coronavirus pandemic which resulted in thousands of workers becoming jobless.
Narayana Rao, proprietor of Vyshnavi Films and Sri Ram Arts, told the CJI that the latest cut in cinema ticket rates gave a severe blow to the film industry. It was like the cine industry fell from the frying pan into the fire.
Expressing concern, Narayana Rao said that hundreds of theatres were closed due to the falling revenue on account of the increase in ticket rates. The existence of the film industry came under question.
Narayana Rao appealed to Justice Ramana to come to show humanity and take the initiative to resolve the problems of the film industry. The CJI should come to the rescue of lakhs of workers depending directly and indirectly on the cine industry for their daily livelihoods.
