In a magnificent celebration of cultural heritage, spirituality, and communal unity, Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad hosted the grand “Sri Radha Govinda Ratha Yatra” in Kokapet on December 9th. The Ratha Yatra involved pulling of the Grand Chariot on which the beautifully decorated Sri Radha Govinda Deities were seated, by scrores of people from all walks of life with great devotion and to the accompaniment of enchanting Sankirtans and large scale prasdam distribution all along the way in a disciplined manner.
The vibrant procession, starting from Sri Krishna Goseva Mandal Goshala near Gandipet Main Road Y Junction, traversed through Kokapet X Road, Allu Studios, 7 Hills Gated Community, Kokapet Gram Panchayat Road, Shanthi Nagar Road, and concluded at the Hare Krishna Heritage Tower project site. The Deities of Sri Radha Govinda, bedecked with beautiful decorations, gave Darshan to the devotees from the grand chariot as the Ratha Yatra perambulated in the main localities of Kokapet.
The centerpiece of the spectacle was the opulently decorated chariot with vibrant lights & flowers, carrying the Divine Sri Radha Govinda Deities. A fusion of tradition and innovation, the chariot boasted modern amenities such as air brakes and a sophisticated steering system, canopy adjustment system seamlessly blending with the timeless allure of ancient traditions. The robust rope mechanism, allowing 500 participants to pull in unison, symbolized the collective spirit of the community. Adequate safety measures like deploying a wheel protection team (who ensure that people don’t come close to the wheels) and arranging a sound system to communicate and control the surging devotees helped in the smooth progress of the Ratha.
The Ratha Yatra event which began at Sri Krishna Goseva Mandal Goshala with an Inaugural Puja ceremony followed by Prathama Arathi and Traditional Brooming Ceremony of Ratha Route by dignitaries (as per the traditional practice), was inaugurated in the auspicious presence of His Grace Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa Prabhuji, Chairman, ISKCON Bangalore and Chairman, Akshaya Patra, and His Grace Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Prabhuji, President, Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad and Regional President, Akshaya Patra (Telangana & AP).
Governing Body Members, Senior Devotees, Well wishers and volunteers from various states actively participated, infusing the event with a palpable sense of community spirit.
The Ratha procession offered an immersive experience for Kokapet residents, by allowing them to not only witness the Divine Darshan of the beautiful Deities of Sri Radha Govinda but also extended an unique opportunity to pull the Chariot. The route was marked by spiritual pitstops, where Puja & Archana ceremonies were conducted, and devotees fervently offered prayers along with coconuts, flowers, fruits etc as tokens of devotion.
Devotees and volunteers, numbering in the thousands, pulled the chariot, offered prayers, engaged in Sankirtans, and distributed Vedic literature all along the Ratha Yatra. Cultural performances & devotional skits showcased by talented Basil Woods school children were a special attraction during the procession. Beautiful Rangolis, Traditional Kolatam dance performed by devotees welcoming the Lord’s Ratha attracted one and all. Donna Prasadam was distributed profusely to over 20,000 people during the Ratha Yatra.
The program concluded at Hare Krishna Heritage Tower project site with an enlightening Pravachan and Maha Mangala Arati by His Grace Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa Prabhuji followed by dinner prasadam to all the devotees.
Addressing the gathering, His Grace Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa Prabhuji emphasized the historical significance of the Ratha Yatra festival and its connection to Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s inauguration of the Sankirtana movement and the contribution of Srila Prabhupada (Founder Acharya of ISKCON) in popularizing Ratha Yatra as a World Wide Cultural Festival.
In his vote of thanks, His Grace Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Prabhuji expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, devotees, donors, volunteers, police, media, and government departments for their support and cooperation in making the Ratha Yatra a grand success.
