TDP kicks off ‘Rythu Kosam’ protests

Raise slogans against Jagan ‘anti-farmer’ policies
Opposition leaders call CM a betrayer of farmers
AMARAVATI: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) kicked off its State wide protests of ‘Rythu Kosam Telugu Desam’ on Tuesday and demanded that the YSRCP Government withdraw its anti-farmer policies.
On the first day, the TDP leaders and cadre held rallies and submitted memoranda to officials in Nandyal, Kurnool, Hindpuram, Anantapur and Kadapa parliamentary constituencies. They raised slogans and displayed placards in protest against the Jaganmohan Reddy regime’s total indifference to the rising debts and problems of the cultivators in the State. The Rythu Kosam protests would continue till September 18. At some places, the protesters went in bullock carts and gave their representation to the officials.
The TDP protesters brought and displayed different crops to highlight how lack of support had hit the farmers very hard. The ruling party leaders were not at all listening to the problems of the cultivators. The agricultural department was not functioning and its activities came to a halt. All sorts of subsidies were being cut and withdrawn with an ulterior plan to crush the farm sector. It had become very difficult to take up cultivation on lease under the present regime.
The TDP leaders and cadre went in a rally to the MRO office in Pattikonda segment and submitted a memorandum on the farmers’ problems. Kurnool parliamentary constituency party president Somisetti Venkateswarlu and others were present. Alur assembly segment party incharge Kotla Sujathamma led a rally and held dharna at the Ambedkar statue. MLC KE Prabhakar organised a rally with farmers from Done old bus stand to Tahsildar office.
The TDP leaders criticised the Government for not providing water under the KC Canal ayacut at Chennur village in Kamalapuram segment. As a result, the farmers announced a crop holiday in 1,200 acres in protest against the Government’s indifference. There was no support despite high costs of cultivation and rising debts. Senior leader Mallela Linga Reddy along with other party leaders visited the lands and gave a representation to the Tahsildar.
Telugu Rythu State Marreddy Srinivasa Reddy took part in the protest rally held at Orvakal mandal headquarters in Panyam assembly segment. Nandyal parliament party president Gowru Venkata Reddy and former MLA Gowru Charita Reddy led the protest programme. In Mantrayalam segment, the party incharge Tikka Reddy went in a bullock cart rally and submitted a memorandum to the MRO.
In Banaganapalle constituency, former MLA BC Janardhan Reddy and other leaders took part in the party rally aimed at highlighting the damaged crops in the recent rains at Sanjamala village and other places. They demanded that the Government pay compensation to the farmers who suffered losses. The protests were held in Emmiganur and Singanamala assembly segments. In Kodumur, incharge Akepogu Prabhakar and others registered their protest and submitted a memorandum to the MRO.
