CM silent on high rates of sand, cement, etc: Rafi
YCP bent on shutting down Telugu film industry
AMARAVATI: TDP official spokesman Syed Rafi on Tuesday asked why Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy was arbitrarily hiking RTC bus charges during Sankranthi when his Government reduced cinema ticket rates in the name of helping the people.
Rafi termed it as unfortunate that the YSRCP regime decided to increase RTC fares by 50 percent on the pretext of special bus services. The financial burden was being imposed on the people even before they started making preparations for the Sankranthi celebrations.
Addressing a press conference here, the TDP leader said the CM should explain why his regime was not making any effort to reduce the rates of sand, cement, essential commodities, petrol and diesel. The latest hike in RTC fares was also part of an ulterior strategy to fill the public treasury so that the ruling party leaders could continue their irregularities endlessly.
Rafi expressed concern that the ruling YSRCP’s politics of vengeance seemed to be insatiable despite huge destruction going on in the State. The Chief Minister was hell bent on destroying the whole cine industry out of his grudge against just two or three castes and one or two actors.
The TDP leader said the YCP Government had decided to shut down the Telugu film industry which brought name and fame all over the world. The CM was saying that the cinema ticket rates were reduced just to make them more affordable to the poorer sections of people. In that case, the same poorer sections were unable to bear the increased RTC and current charges.
Rafi deplored that the Chief Minister’s decision had led to huge losses and even closure of many theatres. Thousands of workers were thrown out of work and unable to earn a living. Jagan Reddy used to say that the liquor rates were increased so that the drinkers would receive shock. The CM should explain why he had caused a severe rise in rates of cement, sand, steel and so on.
The TDP leader said the YCP Government has already started making plans to hike current charges in future. Till now, the tenants have been paying current bills based on sub-meters fixed separately for their portion in a large house. But the CM was bringing a rule for only one meter in each house so as to turn it into the commercial category in order to collect far higher current charges.
