-No TDP nominee against late MLA’s family member: Atchannaidu
-TDP did not field candidate against YS Vijaya
AMARAVATI: TDP state president K. Atchannaidu on Monday asserted that their party would remain committed to the tradition of not fielding its candidate against family members of deceased MLAs and MPs in byelections.
Atchannaidu said that as part of this tradition only, the TDP had decided not to field its candidate if a family member of the late MLA was fielded in the Atmakur bypoll in Nellore district.
In a statement here, the TDP leader pointed out that when Devarakonda Congress MLA Dheeravat Ragya Naik died in Nalgonda district in 1999, the TDP did not field its candidate though it was in power at that time. At that time, Ragya Naik’s wife Bharathi Naik contested the bypoll.
Atchannaidu said that the TDP did not field its candidate in Nandyal Lok Sabha bypoll in order to pave the way for Telugu leader P.V. Narasimha Rao to become the Prime Minister. The same tradition was followed when Y.S. Vijaya contested the Pulivendula bypoll in 2009 following the death of Y.S.R.
The TDP leader recalled how the TDP fielded its candidate in Tirupati bypoll as the YSRCP fielded a candidate other than the family members of the deceased MP Durga Prasad. In Atmakur, the family members of late MLA Mekapati Goutham Reddy were in the fray.
Atchannaidu said that if the ticket was given to anybody other than the family members of Goutham Reddy, the TDP will contest the by-election. Jagan Reddy should clarify his stand on the tradition being followed by the TDP.
The TDP leader said that the people were totally unhappy with the inefficient and corrupt regime of Jagan Reddy. They were eager to throw the ruling party in the bay of Bengal.
