-Expresses concern on woman surveyor suicide attempt
-Seeks action against Kuppam tahsildar
AMARAVATI: TDP National President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday described as ‘inhuman and gruesome’ the harassment of a woman surveyor by her superior officer in Kuppam in Chittoor district.
Naidu urged the Chittoor District Collector to take necessary action against Kuppam Mandal Tahsildar Suresh Babu for harassing and threatening surveyor Muni Lavanya. She has been working as a surveyor at Nadimuru village secretariat.
In a letter to the District Collector, the TDP chief said Suresh Babu, Tahsildar, seemed to have threatened her that he would ensure that she would not get probation. Following these threats, Lavanya took some tablets and attempted to commit suicide. Fortunately, she was spotted by the neighbours and was admitted into a hospital.
Naidu said that the revenue officials descended at the hospital, took her to some other place and administered treatment through doctors under their watch. It was sad that the administration has stooped to such a low level. They were resorting to harassment and intimidation of subordinates for money, which has become a norm in the State.
Chandrababu Naidu deplored that such behaviour and threats would take our society and governance backwards at least by four decades. There is an urgent need to contain such harassment and threats to all the employees in the State.
The TDP chief said there appears to be many allegations related to corruption and harassment of women staff. Against this backdrop, the Collector should initiate an enquiry and take action against V. Suresh Babu for harassing and threatening the surveyor with dire consequences and for gross misuse of his position. Simultaneously, it is important to ensure proper treatment free of cost to Lavanya until she is recovered completely.
