The former chief minister and TDP national president, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Tuesday asked as to how the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, is connected with NTR Health University, which was established in 1986.
In a press note released here, Mr Chandrababu felt that deleting the name of late NTR to the health university reflects the defeat of the YSRCP Government and that the TDP strongly opposes this. Mr Chandrababu demanded that the NTR’s name for the university be retained at any cost.
The former chief minister stated that the late NT Rama Rao established the university with a view to having a separate head of the institution for medical education. After his demise in 1998, the then TDP government named the university after him, Mr Naidu observed.
The TDP national president clearly mentioned that no successive chief minister, including the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, never thought of changing the name of the university which acquired national recognition. It is totally illogical to think of changing the name of NTR Health University now, after 36 long years of its establishment, he remarked.
The present Government, which could not set up even a single establishment and could not construct even a single structure in any part of the State, is only thinking of changing the names of the established institutions, he said and stated that it is nothing but totally ridiculous. The ruling dispensation which managed to divert the Rs 450 cr funds from the university account, has absolutely no right to change the name of the varsity, he maintained.
The State Government, which defamed the prestige of the university as there are no funds with the institution to conduct even the annual convocation, is now trying to change its name, he said and asked in which way the Late YSR is related with NTR Health University.
Mr Chandrababu firmly believes that by simply changing the names of the established institutions the Government will achieve nothing, but the party in ruling should try to set up new establishments and the Chief Minister, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, should realise this.
Mr Chandrababu Naidu demanded that the State Government continue the name of NTR Health University to the institution and withdraw the idea of renaming it.
