Amaravathi: Suspecting the hand of the ruling YSRCP leaders behind the smuggling of drugs, the TDP national general secretary, Mr Nara Lokesh, here on Saturday said that Andhra Pradesh has turned into an epi-centre for ganja in the Chief Minister, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, rule.
Mr Lokesh, on Saturday submitted a letter to the Governor, Mr Justice Nazir Ahmed, in which he clearly mentioned how the ganja is being smuggled into the State and how people are complaining during his ongoing Yuva Galam pada yatra. Later taking to media persons, Mr Lokesh said that “My concern is only that Andhra Pradesh should not become another Udta Punjab with drug menace.”
Stating that he has taken to the notice of the Governor on how drug abuse is rampant in the State, the TDP national general secretary said that he made an appeal to the Governor to intervene and initiate steps to check this menace. When Mr Chandrababu Naidu was the chief minister the State was considered to be job capital and now it turned out to be ganja capital, he stated.
Wherever ganja is seized in the country the links are from Andhra Pradesh, he said and explained as to how a woman, from Chittoor district narrated during Yuva Galam the story of her daughter after she got addicted to ganja. “The woman told me that the local YSRCP leaders forced her 15-year-old daughter to get addicted to ganja and later they sexually exploited her,” Mr Lokesh said with serious concern. The girl is now in de-addiction centre, he said.
Maintaining that the TDP has been organising “no ganja bro’ programmes on a large scale, Mr Lokesh said that every crime reported in the State is linked to ganja abuse. Listing out various cases in which the youth fell victim to the drug addiction, Mr Lokesh felt that the nation’s security is under threat with the drug mafia. Even the report of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has clearly mentioned that Andhra Pradesh is the worst-hit with drug abuse and ganja is freely available in the State, Mr Lokesh pointed out.
It is really unfortunate that the Chief Minister, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is expected to conduct review meetings on this, is more engaged in making a film with the director, Mr Ram Gopal Varma, he said. The Director General of Police (DGP)’s silence on this is sending signals that the ruling party leaders arr behind the mafia, Mr Lokesh remarked.
Mr Lokesh said that the local YSRCP leaders are trying to instigate trouble during his pada yatra by erecting posters against Mr Chandrababu Naidu and the Jana Sena chief, Mr Pawan Kalyan. What message the Chief Minister is sending to the public by asking the local police inspectors to safeguard these posters, he asked.
Mr Lokesh is of the opinion that the volunteers and the village secretariat system should function as per the Constitutional norms. The TDP strongly condemns the ruling party misusing the volunteer system and utilising their services politically, he stated.
In a rather sarcastic manner, Mr Nara Lokesh said that with regard to early polls to the Assembly only the chief advisor to the Government, Mr Sajjala Rama Krishan Reddy, should answer. “If Mr Jagan wants to go for early polls he should fulfill all the promises made to the people,” Mr Lokesh added.
