South Central Railway goes digital

The South Central Railway (SCR) has evolved further by giving its ticket checking employees Hand Held Terminals with cutting-edge capabilities, eliminating the need for them to carry hardcopy charts and perform manual entries.

As the South Central Railway has implemented Hand Held Terminals in 16 trains, travellers will no longer need to locate and ask the onboard railway ticket examiner (TTE) to assign an empty seatSouth-Central-Railway in lieu of waiting for the ticket (bought from the window counter) or Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC).

In 2019, the Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains were the first to use the HHTs. Under SCR, the system was only used in one train, the Secunderabad-Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi Express.

16 additional premium trains have now been put under this effort in addition to those.

(HHTs) is a tablet that enables TTE to download the passenger’s manifest and then update the system in the event that a confirmed berth passenger did not show up for the trip.

It allows the on-board ticket checking staff to fully transparently assign unoccupied berths to passengers by allowing them to know the live status of vacant berths and to verify the status of reserved passengers list.
