AMARAVATI: TDP official spokesman Pilli Manikya Rao on Monday strongly objected to the statement of DIG Trivikrama Varma on the Kantheru attack incident.
Manikya Rao said that the DIG was trying to protect the ruling YSRCP rowdies by simply saying that cases were filed against both the groups.
In a statement here, the TDP leader said that the YCP goondas were targetting to eliminate Dalit woman Venkayamma. The way the Dalits were being harassed was shameful to the entire police department. It was unfortunate that the police were victimising the victims and protecting the miscreants.
Manikya Rao condemned that the YCP rowdies had beaten up Venkayamma and her son in the presence of the police in the Tadikonda police station itself. Venkayamma and another Dalit Sivaji came under attacks by the YCP several times but the police were not filing cases against the goondas.
The TDP leader termed it atrocious that the police joined hands with the accused to harass the victims. The police atrocities became evident during yesterday’s visit of the TDP representatives. The SP promised to file a case but had not arrested the accused till now.
Manikya Rao said by arresting the TDP leaders in their houses, the police were destroying democracy as a whole. The YCP with the connivance of the police hatched a conspiracy to kill Dalit woman Venkayamma and her son. The Government would have to pay a heavy penalty for these offenses.
