TDP decries ‘attacks’ on NTR, Ambedkar statues

Govt not taking action against perpetrators: Atchanna
Withdraw criminal cases filed against TDP leaders

AMARAVATI: TDP state president K. Atchannaidu on Monday slammed the YSRCP Government for not taking necessary action to prevent the miscreants’ attacks on the NTR and Ambedkar statues in the State.

Atchannaidu asked whether the Government would allow only YSR statues to exist in Andhra Pradesh while those of stalwarts would be defiled or removed. Ever since the YSRCP came to power, indiscriminate attacks have been taking place on the NTR and Ambedkar statues.
In a statement here, the TDP leader condemned the latest demolition of the NTR statue in Durgi in Palnadu region of Guntur district. It was tantamount to hurting the sentiments of the Telugu people all over the world. The peaceful Palnadu region was being turned into a hub of violence after Jagan Reddy became the Chief Minister.

Atchannaidu deplored that illegal cases were being filed against the TDP leaders and activists when they were peacefully protesting against the attacks. Simple cases were being filed against those who were terrorising the people with their attacks using deadly weapons.

The TDP leader strongly objected to the criminal cases filed against their party leaders just for protesting the demolition of the statue. The police should unconditionally take back the false cases. The arrested opposition leaders should be released immediately. The Jagan regime was depriving the people of their right to protest.

Atchannaidu warned of dire consequences if the ruling YSRCP leaders continued their attacks on the statues of personalities whose lives would always provide inspiration to the future generations. The people would not approve of the cheap politics surrounding the demolition and defilement of statues.

The TDP leader expressed concern that no action was taken against anybody even though many statues were demolished across the State already. These attacks were going on with a premeditated plan to divert the public attention from the immediate burning issues. The TDP would not keep silent if the attacks on the NTR statues would be repeated anywhere in the State.
