CM should order Commission to punish guilty: Ramaiah
Dalit students separated from others at Brahmapuri school
AMARAVATI: TDP politburo member Varla Ramaiah on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to set up a commission to inquire into the discrimination against Dalit students at Brahmapuri village school in K Gangavaram mandal in East Godavari district.
CM should order Commission to punish guilty
Ramaiah wrote an open letter to the CM, stressing the need for strongly punishing those responsible for separating SC, ST students from others in the Brahmapuri school. This kind of caste discrimination was an unpardonable offence.
The TDP leader held the entire district administration right from the Collector responsible for the untoward incident. Charges of caste discrimination and untouchability could be made against those involved in this offence. The Commission should take up a detailed inquiry and take action against the guilty persons regardless of their positions.
Decrying the incident, Ramaiah warned that the Chief Minister would go down in history as a ‘betrayer of Dalits’ if he would not take prompt action in the Brahmapuri school discrimination. The Dalit sections have come under many attacks ever since the YSRCP came to power. Just for asking for a Coronavirus mask, Dalit doctor Dr Sudhakar was humiliated, victimised, branded insane, arrested and harassed till his death.
The TDP leader recalled how a Dalit youth was tonsured in the police station itself just for questioning the illegal activities of the sand mafia. Another Dalit youth was persecuted and victimised just for raising his voice against the high rates of liquor. He made those comments while in an inebriated condition but the present rulers did not forgive him. Finally, he died under suspicious circumstances.
Ramaiah told the CM that just for not wearing a Coronavirus face mask, one Dalit youth was beaten to death. But, no action was taken against the guilty. One Dalit girl was gangraped and left in front of the police station. Hundreds of such atrocities and attacks took place on Dalits.
