-Anagani writes letter to Chief Secretary
-Raise retirement age to 62 on par with Govt staff
AMARAVATI: TDP Repalle MLA Anagani Satya Prasad on Tuesday urged the Chief Secretary of AP to take immediate action for increasing the salaries of home guards in the police department.
Satya Prasad wrote a letter to the CS, stressing the need for raising the retirement age of home guards from 60 to 62 years on a par with the State Government employees. Justice should be done to all the families of 16,000 home guards in the State.
The TDP MLA said that the Government should announce Rs. 10 Lakh gratuity that would be given after retirement. The Asutosh Mishra committee suggested salaries to home guards on a par with the State Government employees.
Satya Prasad asserted that home guards had always played a vital role in the duties of the police department. They have been rendering valuable services from maintaining traffic by standing under hot sun to ensuring protection to the VIPs. They have rendered unforgettable services to the people during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The TDP MLA recalled that the Chandrababu regime recognised the services of home guards and issued GO No 77 on June 18, 2018, raising their daily salaries to Rs. 600. The insurance payment for the death of home guards on duty was raised from Rs. 5 Lakh to Rs. 30 Lakh.
Expressing concern, Satya Prasad said that the present regime has raised daily salaries of home guards by just Rs. 110 in its GO No 876 issued on October 12, 2019. The home guards were facing a lot of financial hardships due to the absence of any decision by the Government on increasing their salaries.
The TDP MLA recalled that the Supreme Court of India had issued a contempt order with regard to the salary hike for home guards in the past. The DGP had then issued orders for implementation of the SC direction but had not ensured compliance.
