Soft release of Mouse deer and Chital deer to enclosure in Jannaram

Lokesh Jaiswal, PCCF (Chief wildlife warden) inaugurated wildlife workshop at Jannaram, Kawal tiger reserve. Expert on grassland, Dr. Muratkar was invited to take up sessions on local grasses, legumes, protocols for field staff of tiger landscape.

Best practices of Kawal tiger reserve in grassland management, watershed ecosystems were explained by field director C.P.Vinod Kumar to field staff. DFOs, field staff of Tiger bearing areas of Mahabubabad, Kothagudem, khammam, Mulugu, Bhupalpally were in attendance, along with tiger reserve staff to adopt best practices of kawal tiger reserve.

Soft release of 20 Mouse deer from zoo to enclosure in Jannaram was taken up in field training today. Conservation breeding program of mouse deer is a success in Telangana, release in wild is being taken up to establish a viable population in the wild.

Enclosures are specially designed for mouse deer, its habitat was enriched with local innovations, local material by field staff.

Also, Chital Breeding centre was inagurated by Chief wildlife warden at Kawal TR. Release of six spotted deer to this enclosure was initiated, more spotted deer (50 in phased manner) would be released from across the source populations in our state.

Grassland, perennial water sources are created in deer enclosures to facilitate good breeding conditions and increase of prey density for tiger reserve.
